You feel right at home when you arrive in Melbourne (Australia). Historic buildings, street art and lots of cool places to relax. In this article, I’ll share my top 5 favorite things to do in Melbourne.
Go on a free city tour
Do you feel like learning something about the history of the architecture of Melbourne? Then I can highly recommend a free walking tour with a guide. Twice a day, they depart from the library and show you around for about 3 hours. During the tour, you’ll visit several places with a great view of the Melbourne skyline. You also learn a lot about the history of Melbourne. If you like the tour, make sure to tip your tour guide at the end of the tour.
Buy souvenirs at Victoria Market
Do you need some souvenirs for the people at home? Queen Victoria Market is the place to buy them! There are many choices and the cheapest you will find in Australia. They sell loads of things at this market, so make sure to check it out.
Find streets filled with street art
In some parts of Melbourne, it is legal to spray graffiti. There are many great pieces of art to be found in the streets around Hosier Lane. You can visit this place numerous times because the art changes every single day.
Relax in one the amazing bars
In Melbourne, you can find the coolest bars to drink coffee or cocktails. You can sit outside on the streets, or in an old building. Just ask around to find the best places in town.
Explore the Great Ocean Road
This was my absolute favorite thing to do in Melbourne: explore the Great Ocean Road. This road along the coastline is probably the most beautiful road I’ve ever driven, the views are stunning. And you will see loads of koalas sleeping in the trees. You can easily arrange a tour in Melbourne or just drive yourselves. Make sure to spend a night during your trip, because you won’t see it all during a one-day tour.
Of course, there are many more things to do in Melbourne, but I only had three days and these were my favorites. If you have more time, you should definitely check this 5-day itinerary of Melbourne for more amazing tips.
Where to stay in Melbourne?
If you only have a couple of days in Melbourne, I would recommend staying as close to the city center as possible. That way, you can walk pretty much everywhere. I stayed at the Space Hotel, which is a luxurious hostel in a great location.
