A great place to settle down for a couple of days is the city Nice in the south of France. It’s easy to get around, and there are a lot of places to explore. In this article, I’ll share my travel tips for Nice.
How to get around?
You can reach Nice easily by plane, from most big cities in France and also from different capitals (like London, Amsterdam and, Rome) in Europe. Check Skyscanner NL for your options and the best prices. From the Airport, you can take multiple buses to the city (lines 98 and 99) for just €6. The buses leave regularly (pretty much every 15 minutes), so you won’t have to wait long. Within Nice, you can take buses or the tram (or just walk, it’s not that big). If you’d like to visit other destinations (like the ones I mention below), you can take the train, which also leaves regularly from Nice Station. Check this website for the train schedule.
Where to stay?
Hotel prices in Nice change every single day, so check them before you leave. I always use Booking.com for reference. Prices can be as low as €45 for a night or they can be €200. I happened to be in Nice right before the famous film festival started, and the rooms were extremely expensive.
If you can’t find a hotel room for a decent price, you can always check Airbnb. Is it your first booking using this platform? Sign in by using this link to get €25 off your next booking.
As for location, it doesn’t really matter where in Nice you stay, it’s not that big. But it’s nice to stay close to a train station, so it will be easier to explore the area. I stayed close to station Nice-Riquier, which was very convenient.
Where to go?
Like I said, Nice is a great location to explore other places at the Côte d’Azur.
In less than 30 minutes, you can visit another country: Monaco. It’s one of the weirdest places I’ve ever been to. It’s tiny, huge flats, a harbor filled with the most beautiful yachts and to get to another street you can take an elevator because everything is so steep! I especially recommend going for a walk in the old part of Monaco, which is called Monaco Ville. Here you will find the palace, the cathedral (with the grave of Grace Kelly) and a park with beautiful views.
Another great place to visit from Nice is the cute town of Ventimiglia. And it’s not located in France or Monaco, it’s in Italy! It’s not very vibrant, but cute enough for a stroll around old town, with lots of stairs and narrow streets. You will see some beautiful squares and you can have a great Italian lunch at the beach.
Do you like beautiful sandy beaches? You might consider going to Cannes. It’s about 40 minutes by train. It’s also a nice town to explore, all about the rich & famous. So you will see fancy hotels and buildings.
There are so many things to do around Nice, that you probably forgot to visit the town itself. But don’t skip Nice, because there are a lot of great things to do in Nice! It has beautiful medieval streets and amazing squares. Make sure to climb to the top of Castle Hill for a great view of the boulevard.
