Review Casa Tucan Playa del Carmen

Review Casa Tucan, Playa del Carmen (Mexico)

Casa Tucan is a colorful and small hotel in the Mexican beach town Playa del Carmen. I stayed a couple of nights in this hotel and share my review in this article.

Location

Strand Playa del Carmen

Casa Tucan is located in a quiet street close to the busy center of Playa del Carmen. The beach is only two blocks away, which is about a 5-minute walk. The ADO bus station is a little further, but still only a 10-minute walk. For me, it was a perfect location, because you could walk everywhere and didn’t hear a lot of noise from all the clubs and restaurants.

Room

Kamer Casa Tucan

Every room in Casa Tucan has a different look and feel. They all have a bright mural and it’s possible to sit outside. I booked a basic room and it was a nice cottage with a Jungle Book theme.
The room was very basic, but because of the colorful mural, it looked clean and fresh. I had two beds, a place to sit, a small closet, two fans, and a refrigerator. Right outside the door was a sitting area with a hammock.

Bathroom

The bathroom was very basic as well but had everything you need: a (hot) shower, a toilet, and a sink. Nothing special, but it was clean and I had plenty of towels.

Facilities

Pool

Pool

The hotel has a small pool, and there are some loungers. It’s small, but a great place to relax and cool off after a long day of exploring Playa del Carmen. During my stay, hardly anybody used the pool, so I kinda felt I had a private pool.

Wifi

At the reception, I got several small notes with the login for the wifi network. There are different networks in the hotel, so make sure to use the right one. It wasn’t the best wifi in the world, but I was able to use apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, and Instagram. I didn’t try to use Netflix, but I doubt it would work.

Safe

There is no safe inside the room, but they have some at the reception. As a guest, you can use them for free.

Restaurant

Guacamole

Breakfast was not included during my stay, but there is a restaurant on site where you can order food. I highly recommend going here, the staff is really friendly, the food is great, and it’s way cheaper than going to the center of town.

How much & where to book

My basic room cost me €20 a night, not bad, right? There are some bigger and more luxurious rooms in the complex, they will cost you about €40-€50 a night. You can reserve a room through via Booking.com.

Conclusion

Casa Tucan is not the best hotel in Playa del Carmen, but it is a great deal for a lower budget. The staff is friendly, it’s clean and the location is absolutely fantastic.
