10 beautiful viewpoints for the best views of Prague

Prague is located in a hilly area, offering stunning panoramas from many spots. Discover the best views of Prague and where to find them.

What are the most beautiful viewpoints in Prague?

I have been to Prague three times now, and each time I make it a point to search for the best views of Prague. As a solo traveler, I love seeing the city from above. From a high spot you can instantly see where you have been, which districts are still on your list, and how the Vltava River winds its way through the city. It gives me a sense of perspective and often a moment of calm, away from the busy streets below.

Prague is perfect for this because the city is built on hills. That means there are plenty of places to enjoy a great view, from famous towers with panoramic scenes to quiet parks where you might only meet a few locals. In this guide I’m sharing my favorite spots for the best views of Prague, along with personal experiences and practical tips so you can plan which ones to visit during your trip.

The best views of Prague

From tall towers with 360-degree panoramas to green parks with sweeping vistas, these spots let you see the Czech capital from its most beautiful side. Each viewpoint has its own charm and often offers a completely different perspective on the city.

Prague Castle (Pražský hrad)

Prague Castle is perhaps the most important attraction in the city, and I have been there twice. It is a huge complex on top of a hill where you can wander around for hours.

To get there, you have to climb some stairs, and it’s worth looking back every now and then. The views of Prague’s red roofs and towers are amazing. Right next to Prague Castle there is a Starbucks with several terraces, which also offers a great view of the city.

Petrin Hill (Petřínská rozhledna)

Near Prague Castle is Petrin Hill, a lovely large park where you can take a break during your city trip while enjoying a beautiful view of the Old Town and the castle. The park is free to visit and offers many great viewpoints, especially along the higher walkways, and it’s also one of the best places for Prague photography thanks to the variety of angles and perspectives.

In the middle of the park stands the Petřín viewing tower (Petřínská rozhledna), a 63.5-meter-high tower that resembles a miniature Eiffel Tower. Because it stands atop the hill, you reach a total height of over 300 meters above the city. From the top you have a 360-degree view that extends far beyond what you see from the park itself, with views on clear days stretching into the distant surroundings of Prague. You can climb the tower via the stairs or take a small elevator.

Vysehrad

South of the Old Town lies Vyšehrad, an old fortress on a hill. Here you’ll find a park, a unique cemetery, and a cathedral, and you can walk along the old fortress walls. It’s a fascinating place to explore, and from here you also have a wonderful view of the city, with its sea of red rooftops. Since it’s a bit further from the center, you won’t encounter many other tourists here, which makes it a great addition if you’re planning a route like what to do in Prague in 2 days.

Letná Park (Letenská pláň)

If you want to take a beautiful photo of several bridges over the Vltava River, Letná Park is the place to go. This is another huge park on a hill, and from here you can see the bend the Vltava makes around the Old Town. The best spot to view the bridges is on the west side of the park, near Hanavský Pavilon.

Old Town Bridge Tower (Staromestská mostecká vez)

The view from the Old Town Bridge Tower ranks number one for me in this list of the most beautiful views in Prague. The tower stands on the famous Charles Bridge, which is always very crowded. On the tower itself, however, there are hardly any people, and you can walk all the way around. This gives you a 360-degree view of this stunning city full of extraordinary towers.

Riegrovy Sady

A popular park with locals, especially around sunset. From the hill you have an unobstructed view of the Prague skyline with the castle in the background. Bring some snacks and a drink and have a picnic.

Tower of the Old Town Hall (Staroměstská radnice)

In the middle of Old Town Square stands the historic City Hall, known for its famous astronomical clock. You can climb the tower for a fantastic view of the square itself and the surrounding streets. From here you can see the colorful facades, the Týn Church with its striking towers, and the lively crowds below.

The climb is partly by stairs and partly by elevator. On clear days the view is especially impressive, and it’s a great place to take photos of the activity in the square.

Žižkov television tower (Žižkovská televizní věž)

At 216 meters, the Žižkov Television Tower is Prague’s tallest building and immediately stands out in the skyline. The observatory is at 93 meters, and on clear days you can see up to 100 kilometers into the distance. The tower has a striking modern design with large baby statues crawling along its pillars.

I haven’t been there myself, but it seems like a special place to see the city from a completely different perspective. Especially in the evening, when Prague is illuminated, the view must be spectacular.

Charles Bridge (Karlův most)

The Charles Bridge is perhaps Prague’s most famous monument, but it’s also a fantastic vantage point. From the bridge you can see the Vltava River, Prague Castle, and the city’s towers. I walked there early in the morning this year and it was magical: soft colors in the sky, almost no people, and the city slowly waking up.

Cathedral Wencesla’s Vineyard (Svatováclavská vinice)

Located near Prague Castle, this vineyard is a wonderful place to relax for a while. I once sat on the terrace here in autumn with a glass of wine, while the autumn colors covered the vineyards. The view of the city and the peaceful atmosphere make it a special stop during your city break.

Wherever you decide to stay or how you choose to get there, Prague’s viewpoints will give you memories and photos you’ll want to keep forever.
